Hmmm, 2 points lost against a mediocre Middlesbrough.
Not a lot of worthwhile shots in the match but lots of meaty tackles amongst the `boro dives and fouls and the holding like a rugby prop on Baldock at the corner flag, how`s that not a booking? Two decent appeals for penalties for us, Ndiaye inexplicably just shoved over and RND very obviously clipped. Sure the ref let a lot of hard borderline tackles go which was a breath of fresh air (always welcome in middlesbrough), but those 2 weren`t 50/50 tackles in the area , they were both fouls . Chris Wilder says that that was the best reffing he`s seen in ages, no wonder , we could and should`ve been out of sight before they got the 2nd of 2 poorly defended goals.
Add the goal we were given offside for, Was it offside? was it an own goal? looked an ok goal either way.
Cracking goal by Sander, and a slice of luck, we more than deserved, for the second , as we got very little luck apart from that.
But what of our line up?... sorry our left is a touch more Liberace than Led Zeppelin. Lowe did get better second half but him and RND were poor at delivering crosses and ball watching for the first equaliser was summat you expect by a sunday league left back after 12 pints of john smith`s and a pork pie. Funny then that the left hand side seems to be our favoured outlet, why ?
Why too, have BOTH Fleck AND Norwood? i guess Hecky wants some tacklers in there, but surely pick one of the two to stay deep while we have Khadra, McAtee or Doyle doing the creative stuff. We are getting just a little bit Southgatey and seem adverse to using that flair for fear of dropping points, tell thi` what, going for 3 points is a better bet overall.
Ne`er mind, we didn`t lose, We should`ve got 3 points but a couple of good home wins, coming up, will douse that particular itch. Hopefully !!!!
Plenty of fans are having a go at some of our players and the tactics, but all is fixable within this squad. let`s hope it starts v. Sunderland.
