Adoo Dellas. Great post there, mate! Our pies are just as p.poor now! Yes I remember the game at Bescot v. Blades that season- we enjoyed a 2 game unbeaten run in that season in early Jan! I was up at yours for the early season game which ended 1-1. That was the last time I've been at Bramall Lane. In fact I've only been at yours twice. The other game was Blades v. Sunderland around 1991 ish, when I was doing the 92 grounds. Think it ended 2-2. I have the date and score somewhere in my records.

Ivanhoe!
We have checked every player that has played for Walsall since the war and there is a S.M.Fort who played for WFC in the 53-4 season and 54-5 season. Can someone in your family confirm his middle initial? It has to be the one, surely? Unusual surname.
S.M. Fort made his debut for us at Crystal Palace on 20.2.54 and played in the last 16 games of that season.
He then started the next 12 games of the 54-5 season with his last game for us on 30.9.54 so in total he played 28 consecutive games over the two seasons.
He was a right back. The fact he played in those consecutive games then no more suggests he was either transfered to a bigger club or was badly injured and couldn't continue as a pro?
Hope this info is of some help?

Hey-Up Sadlad,
It is indeed a strange middle name 'Mather', it was my Grand-dad's middle name too.
Thanks for your assistance M8, it's greatly appreciated, I will see if I can get a hold of a team photo from the seasons you mention, he should be on one of them.
Thanks again Ivanhoe

No problem Ivanhoe. When I have a chance I will delve further as I may have some programme notes in 'lookback' sections which may mention him.
