United have confirmed the appointment of Dave Bassett on a consultancy basis.
The former Blades manager left Unted in the mid-nineties and in the intervening period worked with Micky Adams.
Boss Adams has moved to bring Bassett in on a largely unspecified consultancy basis and he will be at the Lane on Saturday for the fixtures against Millwall.

Good to have hi back around the place. Let's hope his motivational skills rub off on some of the shower that masquerade as footballers.

Don`t see a problem with this, we need all the help we can get & Harry saw us out of a few scrapes when we were in much worse positions.
Bugger the moaning gets who aren`t keen, Sir Lord Saint Dave is welcome anytime at the lane in my book. For those silly sods who`d rather we had Blackie & Ellis in charge i suggest a visit to self.lobotomy.co.uk

Bassett was in charge from 1988 to 1995 as Blades earned two successive promotions to reach the top flight in 1990 before their relegation in 1994.
Adams said: "He's back because there's not enough hours in the day for me.
"I've found the club bigger than I thought and his experience will be valuable to me."
Adams worked as Bassett's assistant at Nottingham Forest and the pair then linked up again when the Blades boss took charge at Leicester City.
"When you're manager at Port Vale you probably get three calls a day and one of those is from the wife asking me what time I'm coming home for my tea," added Adams.

"But when you're struggling at the bottom of the table and trying to organise scouting, talking to other managers, worrying about travel, there's a lot of aspects to management other than putting 11 lads out on a pitch on a Saturday and getting on with it.
"Harry will come in and work alongside me, we'll talk about tactics, players and what we do on the training ground.
"I'm not bringing him in to take the pressure off myself and he's not a threat to my job. It's something I wanted to do, the board have bought into it and we welcome him back."
Bassett also had spells as manager of Wimbledon, Watford, Crystal Palace and Barnsley.
He was in joint-caretaker charge of Southampton in 2005 with Dennis Wise, who he then assisted at Leeds United.
