Hi, I'm currently a student journalist and i'm writing an article on the tough season the blades have had, And wanted to get the opinions of other fans, such as whats gone wrong, whats the problem with the team, is it the manager? is relegation inevitable? any feedback on anything regarding this season would be great Thanks

Thoughts of the season so far?, well take hold of an abusive word, lets say "w**k" & repeat 37 times.
a longer but still shortish version (minus the 230,000 swear words) would be,
Kept a clueless manager in Blackie who couldn`t change his lump it style, which was slowly killing the team & fans and a tactic that every other side & more had cottoned onto, a manager who couldn`t buy a decent player if he was delivered to his door step wrapped in tinfoil, ribbons, fairy lights & with big bloody card slapped across his forehead saying "decent player' on him.
replaced by a dithering, untried , too nice a lad, Speed, who did one good thing but that was about it.... Andy Reid
Carver had the luxury of Reid for a coupe of games, didn`t do bad didn`t do good
Micky didn`t have the luxury of Reid but failed to bring in anyone remotely decent, whether that was due to McCabe`s inability to prize open his wallet is probably true but Micky has brought in some right 'taters too.
A season long squad splattered with shite limited talentless ordinary players in the form of Nozza, collins, monty, cresswell, doyle, bent, hendo, Boggy, Ertl, simonsen, taylor etc... is only ever going to get you a place amongst the , er, shite limited talentless & ordinary ...
& that`s where we stand... 23rd
The answer was there end of last season... remove Blackwell, appoint a successful manager at championship level. (a year previously would`ve been even better). Fault: McCabe

Well said Fred, could'nt have put it better myself. For what its worth can I add that it to me appears that the people at the top who make the decisions are so far removed from what the fans want is untrue. The day they did'nt replace Dooley as Chairman with another similar football minded man said it all for me, FOOOKIN CLUELESS!!!

Actually, Ivanhoe, whilst I also agree with Fred, the point you make about a "football-minded" person close to the top is a very good one. A Dooley at the top would always have in mind the football needs of club and players, and not simply the financial affairs of the club. That is exactly where we seem to have been lacking this past two seasons. Dooley would have fought on behalf of the players (and he would have scolded them when necessary), he was a practical man who saw what a football club was all about ----football and people.

Thanks Bladenz, I have been wondering who would fit the bill nowadays, for me it would have to be someone who is both passionate and pragmatic about our beloved Blades, someone who the fans respect, rather than the stupid appointment of Richard Batho (although to be fair Richard is a die hard Blade) as the fans representative. Perhaps someone should hold a poll/vote (for fun), lets begin by compiling a wish list, for me its Eddie Colquhoun, he still lives nearby.

Good points about Dooley.
May i put Len Badger forward, tough no nonsense, wi` something you need when supporting The Blades, passion and a sense of humour.
Is he still in the pub trade??.
Big Eddie would be a good`un too that`s for sure, stood alongside him at the sportsman once, think he must have shrunk since his playing days... couldn`t believe i matched this colossus for height, he had a big presence on the field. Perhaps he`d been skipping his morning quaker oats.

Len Badger, Eddie Colqhoun, Ted Hemsley, any of these would fit the bill. Good idea Ivanhoe, let's give it some thought and see what others think. My mind is already whirring back to the days when we had players who were "big" in many ways. I guess that is the type we are seeking.

I was talking to Eddie Colquhoun last year in my local, he was in there with two of his grandsons who had been playing for local youth teams. (one of them I believe is on the books at the Millers) He is so passionate about the Blades its untrue. My mate was in the working mens club Eddie was steward at when John Tudor walked in one afternoon, he says it was one of the best afternoons he has ever had in his life, it became just like an improptu after-dinner session, they captivated all who were there with their stories (some unrepeatable) about their time in football and the characters they met. Wish I had been there...

Always good to hear our old players being proper fans, The Harris & Bassett sides providing the most, probably not a surprise as these sides did tend to stick together on & off the pitch. Vast amounts of Sir Dave`s team have hung around Sheffield & the Lane and most of the 1971 entertainers seem to be fans...
Geoff Salmons, Bob booker, Kevin gage, Beeze, Ted, Badge, TC, Deano etc. etc. the list is a good long`un
Can`t imagine most of the players over the last few years sticking with us, maybe Morgs (doubt he has a soft spot for barnsley), maybe Kyle Walker.
Terry Curran is happily missing from the list

Amen with regards to Curran Fred, but all in all Dave Bassett may be the man in the box seat, after all BEEN THERE SEEN IT DONE IT.

Billy Tightshirt would sort a few out, too! On or off the field. Wasn't it him who made Razor Ruddock go white during a game, when Vinnie Jones threatened him with Billy? Probably Billy wouldn't have the finesse required in the Boardroom, he'd want to chin a few.

Perhaps we could put a bounty on some in the boardroom, a bit like that scene in that film 'The Untouchables' where Di-Niro belts a fella over the nut with a baseball bat. It would be great to see their faces whilst Billy prowled.
