Well sadly all we are left with now are super memories of a brilliant ride from the depths of the 3rd tier, to almost snatching a European place while frightening the shite out of the top premier league clubs.
Thankyou Chris , you were a Godsend who rescued us from years of treading water in the slop buckets of English football. Thanks for the promotions, the charge up the premier league and the 4-2 at S6. many many thanks.
Looks like the owners have possibly done their best to get a DOF at the club, this Van Winkel bloke being a pet of the Prince. The board say Chris chasing Brewster and Ramsdale stopped us getting Watkins and others... Hmmm, we`d long lost the chance of watkins before settling on Brewster, we lost watkins and cash and Robinson etc. because we are a stingy club who didn`t offer enough in wages and a price tag to entice the selling club. The Board say they`ve spent 100M, 20 M pounds on each of 3 players , as if this shows they have propelled us into a different sphere of richness and glory hunting. Alas the rest of the prem laughs at 20m, that gets you a bloke with promise , who`ll sit in the reserves for 2 year plying his trade, and the wages, well 50 to 70 thousand a week minimum to our dodgy 20 to 30. We just weren`t competitive enough. Sure it`s the most The Blades have ever spent, but the premier is a money league, you need to offer double what we outlay to settle into the premier league consistently.
meanwhile we and Chris start this season with hope, but...
eek, lose Mousset pre- season for quite a while, a poor 6 minutes v wolves follows, horrendous reffing/VAR at Villa, we lose Egan sent off, We then lose Jack O`Connell for the season, messing up both our defence and our major attacking prowess down the left, followed by horrendous reffing/VAR v. Leeds, Berge is fouled in the build up to the nosed in winner for dirty leeds and horrendous reffing/VAR v arsenal and David Luiz isnt sent off for grabbing Burke. We start badly, is it Wilder`s fault?, we also lose Fleck to injury and Ramsdale is struggling to fill the space vacated by Henderson. No, it`s not Chris`s fault, we tried for decent back up.... we failed to get that.
So injury/ shocking decisions equal a lack of confidence and we struggle with jack Robinson filling in for Jack O`C . Can Chris galvanise us...
Alas since then we`ve had 8 players out injured with long stays from Jack O`C, Fleck, Mousset, Berge and Egan... then Bash/Enda plus add a few more by the back ups, Robinson and Rodwell, a dose of covid for about 5 or so players and the problems never ceased. .... If ever the need for class depth was needed this was the season to show it.... the board has to learn, we can`t do with the likes of Jack Robinson and Max Lowe filling in. We have 13 or so decent players, injuries to them and we rely on the next 12 or so average players to help out..... every other premier club has 20 decent players, some all 26 like Man City.... 13 isn`t good enough.
Can`t blame Chris for any of this, maybe a formation change/tactics in one or two games may have helped, but i can`t remember a worse time for injuries, (never mind covid ) in The Blades history. Ah maybe playing Lundstram at all was a mistake.... sorry Chris, i had to find one complaint, we`ve looked like we only have 10 players out on the field at times, well with Lundstram that`s been correct.
This DOF stuff and someone else to get the transfers in. No way any proper manager should want this like the Board do, No loans in january... was it all a ruse to push Chris out?.... the results played into the owners hands too. Seems Chris knew his time was up January.
I look at the list of managers touted, buggering hell there`s a pile of manure there, Neil Lennon, who succesfully dragged Bolton into relegation but had success with Celtic, , gosh a stuffed herring could manage celtic to league triumph over the last few years.... their only rival for top spot has only just revived from the carcass of deceit to stop Celtic`s dominance and Lennon couldn`t handle it. Howe is ok, but he failed horribly with Burnley and only Bournemouth is to his credit.. but they did go down despite spending plenty, Benitez mentioned too... blimey he`d want a kitty to dwarf Emley moor, that`s him out. Then there is the comedy twins Monk and carvahal put forward, ... so who`s best man for the job?... Chris Wilder, what happened to him?
Thanks again Chris , magic times over last few years. I can only put forward Harris and Bassett in my lifetime to stand alongside you.... and like Dave you saved us from the sink hole that was the 3rd tier and got us to the top. Your football at it`s best was a delight. A Blade and a champion.
