Well, that was a bit drab, i looked at the team sheet and thought, goodness, that starting eleven is slow (to put it mildly), MGW the only bit of pace, plus Osborn in a creative spark position? in front of or drifting, as is his want, alongside dear old Hourihane, a sometimes good player that seems to have run out of batteries when playing for us.
Reading didn`t have to be at their best , but a couple of darts through us first half and they are 1 up, and without showing a great deal of oomph second half must have laughed their` sens all the way home at our collapse for their second.
I blame Hecky for the daft starting line up and for not bringing Basham on for Uremovic as well as Berge for Osborn/Hourihane at half time...
But you know , if we had a full squad, only 4 of that team would`ve started, injuries has done us like a kipper wi` a white flag, and injuries will in the end probably cost us any thoughts of promotion., have a think about that starting eleven;
Wes, Egan, Norwood and MGW are the four who would start if everyone was fit. So all the rest are virtually second or even third choice.
Uremovic should be Bash
Baldock should be Bogle
Davies should be O`Connell or even Robinson
Osborn should be Fleck, Berge, McGoldrick or Ndiaye
Stevens is close to starting but shares promise (or lack of ) with RND, neither special.
Hourihane should be Berge or Fleck
McBurnie should be Sharp, McGoldrick or Brewster
Add sub Jebbison who should be improved upon , on that performance by Gary Sinclair.
We have 8 good footballers out injured who would`ve made a big difference.
Also starting Bash, Berge and Ndiaye would have at least given us some pace and oomph and creativity.
George had a bit of a shocker really, scores a massively good goal v. swans and now looks timid to shoot or to take a player on, ne`er mind the vacancy sign he puts up for his crossing ability.
MGW tried too hard to get summat going and rarely did.
Davies one minute looks class and calm, the next he looks in a day dream, as he did for both goals.
But i`ll forgive all those who have lost form or look knackered ; The full on, cramped fixture list we`ve gone through, due to dodgy clubs postponing our games with `em, due to "covid" (ahem), surely has resulted in the vast majority of those injuries. We have our honour intact, we`ve carried on regardless*** at what now seems to be quite a cost.
Roll on the bristol cty game, Come on UNITED, you`re still and always will be the best !
*** Did that star Sid james and kenneth Williams?
