beat maltese side 3-1... but no Matt Duke on tour, looks like we have settled for Simmo & Long, Duke appears to be having a trial at Rochdale. Rochdale? , sounds as if he`s slumming it a bit doesn`t it, until you realise that their league standing is now on par wi` ours. bloody crime in`t it.

I dont think Long is ready Fred. He came for a cross when Sheffield equalised and I stood more chance of catching it on the half way line! Some of the goals V Swansea - Simonsen would have had it straight in the throat if that had been him. Leon Britton was on the floor when he scored Id have taken Duke and popped Simonsen back to Rochdale. I think that bloke is a complete liability. We have always prided ourselves on our keepers and this one makes Phil Kite look like Gordon Banks. That in turn makes the defence shaky.

Oh, Goldenslew, you do bring back the memories! When I was a young man, Gordon Banks was reserve keeper at Chesterfield (where I lived at that time!) Best keeper I have ever seen. Our first team keeper in those days was Ron Powell, ex Man.City, but when Gordon took over, we all realised what a brilliant keeper he was - and I saw Frank Swift play, too. (That was more years ago than I care to remember!) He was the current England keeper and I was at the back of the goal when a shot came in just below the bar - he reached up and pulled the bar down and it went over - we nearly went mad behind the goal, Swift just turned round and grinned at us! What a guy. Such a shame about Gordon Banks' accident that finished his career, too!

Aye, we `ve had some fine keepers, Hodgy, Trace, Ned & Paddy, Waugh & Rees weren`t bad either.
But words like Derek Richardson, Lee Baxter, & all the others since Paddy left should never be uttered in front of the children.
Shame about Gordy Banks, good Sheffield lad. Pele was half way back to halfway celebrating that header in 1970 when Gordon called him back "Ayup youth less o` the swagger, all very well slappin `em past some brazillan third world johnnies for santos, tha`s up against a goalkeeper now son"
