I remember Pep Guardiola saying in our first season back in the prem under Wilder ...that we were "relentless", his eyes were whirling like Marty Feldman as he saw his players bouncing off Jack O`Connell as City attacked , only to then see Jack or Bash the furthest man forward for The Blades. No let up, it was 90 minutes of pressure.
Thanks Jack you were colossal !, a supreme Rolls Royce engine tucked in his Blades chest and a fearsome howitzer in the tackle. Could he really head bricks, well for the relief of brick manufacturers he never had to.
So sorry Jack has now retired from football. He`s not been replaced at United yet and probably never will. How do you find a full blooded, hard, nippy skillful attacking/defending centre back. He was so close to an England call up and then a training accident and he was robbed of international stardom.
A dominant scary player for any opposition to come up against whether it would `ve been Messi or ronaldo or Connor Washington , Jack would`ve been brilliant for England. And yet dear old Jack says it`s just football, that `s life. He is intelligent and not at all resentful at his lack of luck.
The memory of his ipswich goal, seeing him and Bash in open play being our furthest men forward, his every tackle, his every cross. Thanks for the marvelous memories Jack.
I remember poor Wilfred Zaha, who after receiving a bruising from Baldock, decided to swap wings to get some freedom from George. Bad decision, out came his white flag the minute he was crunched by this enormous brick wall called O`Connell. My , how We`ve missed Jack.
Hope he does fabulously well in all he does. And i`m sure he`ll be a Blade for life.
