Morning folks. I was wondering if you good people could annswer a few questions for me in preparation for our game on Tuesday, and I can take the responses back to our site Walsall Web Fans ( walsall.web-fans.com ) and our forum by way of a preview? Here goes... 1.What players have you signed in the summer and who should we look out for? 2.Where do you see you finishing in the league and could you have an immediate return? 3.Danny Wilson was a controversial choice as manager. Is he winning the fans over? I heard he even did pub tours in the summer to win you over! 4.Neil Warnock was a colourful character who brought you some success. Do you regret his resignation? Miss him? 5.In May 1981 United lost their 3rd Division status with a 1-0 defeat on the last day to Walsall. What was the impact of your relegation at that time? 6.Do you have any celebrity fans? 7.Just how bad is the rivialy between you and the other lot in the city? 8.What relationship do you have with your chairman Kevin Mc Cabe? 9.I have read that a couple of years ago there were major redevelopment plans for Bramall Lane. Is this likely to happen? Do you want it to? 10.Which grounds are you looking forward to visiting this term? Cheers, DAVE.

1.What players have you signed in the summer and who should we look out for? Oh god. LOADS! That winger from Wolves is tricky. You may have seen him play for Peterbrough last season. Kevin McDonald - central midfield too who signed yesterday morning had a cracking game. 2.Where do you see you finishing in the league and could you have an immediate return? 1st. Hell yes! 3.Danny Wilson was a controversial choice as manager. Is he winning the fans over? I heard he even did pub tours in the summer to win you over! I think he is. No one likes a former player of your rivals as manager, but he has won 3 out of 3 and kept all the players we wanted to keep. 4.Neil Warnock was a colourful character who brought you some success. Do you regret his resignation? Miss him? He wasted ALOT of money. For me he should have been sacked at xmas in the Premiership. Having been relegated, we needed to keep him. I have a feeling that the chapter isnt over yet though. 5.In May 1981 United lost their 3rd Division status with a 1-0 defeat on the last day to Walsall. What was the impact of your relegation at that time? Before my time 6.Do you have any celebrity fans? Sean Bean, Michael Palin, Jessica Ennis, Paul Heaton, Joe Cocker, Def Leopard, Charlie Webster (SSN), Micky Adams, Neil Warnock, Lynda Barker, That bird off the Real Hustle - Jessica someone, Another bird off Sky Spots that did the News that run 24/7 - Helen someone? 7.Just how bad is the rivialy between you and the other lot in the city? Loathe them. Chalk and cheese. There ground was a pig sty dont you know? 8.What relationship do you have with your chairman Kevin Mc Cabe? He lives in Belgium so not alot really. 9.I have read that a couple of years ago there were major redevelopment plans for Bramall Lane. Is this likely to happen? Do you want it to? We went for the World Cup should we have wont it. With our city centre location, plans to re-develop the stadium at our own cost, 5 star hotel....its easy to see how Hillsbrough got the nod being on the outskirts with no available transport links and at a cost of 30 million to the tax payer. 10.Which grounds are you looking forward to visiting this term? None. Just want to get it over with. Hope that helps

1.What players have you signed in the summer and who should we look out for?
i agree with the above about kevin mcdonald. and also young jordan slew, though not technically a new signing, broke into the first team for the final 3 games of last season and looks a real talent, it was great that we tied him down to a new contract
2.Where do you see you finishing in the league and could you have an immediate return?
anything outside the top 2 would be a disappointment
3.Danny Wilson was a controversial choice as manager. Is he winning the fans over? I heard he even did pub tours in the summer to win you over!
i wasnt one of the protestors at his appointment, i decided to give him a clean slate despite his links. he seems very modest and level headed, and on more than one occasion has stated that he intends to earn the respect of the fans rather than stepping straight into the limelight. i've been impressed with his transfer policies/targets as well
4.Neil Warnock was a colourful character who brought you some success. Do you regret his resignation? Miss him?
i was, and still am, a massive warnock fan. although i have to agree with the above statement that he wasted a lot of money in the premiership season, but disagree that he should have been sacked at christmas. had he stayed on we would have gone straight back up and it would have been an entirely different story and i think/hope he will return to the club one day in some capacity
5.In May 1981 United lost their 3rd Division status with a 1-0 defeat on the last day to Walsall. What was the impact of your relegation at that time?
same as previous post
6.Do you have any celebrity fans?
see above, plus juan sebastian veron
7.Just how bad is the rivialy between you and the other lot in the city?
beyond words, i dont want to waste my time talking about them
8.What relationship do you have with your chairman Kevin Mc Cabe?
from experience he seems to have a very good relationship with the fans as individuals, but not as a unit. the only time he has listened to the fans as a group is when we staged a car park demonstration for the sacking of bryan robson. however i once met him on a VIP matchday package at the lane last season and he was nice as pie and listened to everything i had to say about the club. i also noticed he made an appearance at the match yesterday to talk to and shake the hand of a disabled fan
9.I have read that a couple of years ago there were major redevelopment plans for Bramall Lane. Is this likely to happen? Do you want it to?
bramall lane has been majorly redeveloped over the last 20 years and in my opinion has now become one of the most compact, smartest looking grounds outside the premiership. all we need to do now is fill in the one remaining open corner between the kop and south stand and remove the pillars from the kop and in my eyes the ground will be complete. however with crowds inevitably decreasing over the last 2 seasons we obviously now have more important things to spend our money on for the forseeable future
10.Which grounds are you looking forward to visiting this term
having been in the top 2 divisions for so long i've visited most of the grounds of those teams, so the new batch of grounds to visit is one of the few plus points of our relegation

I have got some more famous fans for you,I knew we had more than that Former Sports Minister Richard Caborn is a Blade, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Michael "Flea" Balzary, Sailing gold medalist Paul Goodison, Anna Walker (SSN), Kevin Davies @ Bolton. One of the Arctic Monkeys is a Balde too but the rest are Pigs. There list is a corker! Blind MP David Blunkett! Jarvis Cocker and thats about it! ;D Do Walsall have any famous fans?

Thanks for your respnses, Dellas. Obliged. Interesting comments about your chairman. Walsall's is totally anti-social. Won't have any cotter with the fans. Don't attend any gams no more. Supposed to be a life long WFC fans but he is the land lord as well as Chairman. Last year's accounts showed he paid his pension fund £462.000 for the honour of the players using his pitch.

Goldenslew- We only have ONE celeb as a fan... Pop mogul Pete Waterman. He has been asked by fans and the press alike if he would buy the club out but he has stressed he only ever wants to be a fan, nowt more. The freehold of the club is up for sale- no takers. To actually take charge of WFC would only set you back about £2mill. But to own the whole thing..maybe £14 mill. Who would want to stump up that cash for a Third Div Midlands backwater like Saddlers?

1.What players have you signed in the summer and who should we look out for?
as stated above,
2.Where do you see you finishing in the league and could you have an immediate return?
You never know with The Blades, top 2 would be grand, anything out of top 6 would be terrible but pessimism rules for Blades fans (which of course makes the wins always a lot more worthy!)
3.Danny Wilson was a controversial choice as manager. Is he winning the fans over? I heard he even did pub tours in the summer to win you over!
He was always going to be better than the evil blackwell/ellis alliance, wasn`t happy with a pig managing us but not unhappy either, just a wait & see approach. So far ok.
4.Neil Warnock was a colourful character who brought you some success. Do you regret his resignation? Miss him?
He should`ve been sacked when he did, he never really solved the midfield in the prem, he wasted a bit of dosh on nobodies & a couple for the future in jan of that season. Tactics away from home were horrendous & the season seemed all about him & not us. Sacking more than deserved. The big problem was we replaced him with a series of nongs, when just a little more thought by our chairman & we could be sat pretty in the prem now. Alas our chairman doesn`t always use reason in his thought processes unless it means he can build an overseas academy for some best forgotten dire third world clubs (like wednesday but abroad)
5.In May 1981 United lost their 3rd Division status with a 1-0 defeat on the last day to Walsall. What was the impact of your relegation at that time?
as stated in another thread, at the time horrendous but it served its purpose, we got in Porterfield who then got in Edwards & Morris & we leapt up to the 2nd in no time. Givens got the stick at the time (and Peters) but John Mathews was the penalty taker & chickened out on it, at least Givens had the guts. Fancy getting relegated with a plus goal difference, that takes some doing!
6.Do you have any celebrity fans?
Again , as stated above, though can i add i`m not sure jarvis is a pig supporter... some one told me a mate of his threw a pig shirt to him at a concert, he wiped his arse on it & threw it back. Either he is a Blade or just doesn`t like football???
7.Just how bad is the rivialy between you and the other lot in the city?
They are deluded scum of the earth, nasty arrogant bunch of moronic shitheads, but enough of their good points.
8.What relationship do you have with your chairman Kevin Mc Cabe?
It`s just a rumour we are just acquaintances. don`t believe the photos
9.I have read that a couple of years ago there were major redevelopment plans for Bramall Lane. Is this likely to happen? Do you want it to?
McCabe shat his sen once we lost the world cup bid, his firm`s hopes of a cushy rebuild was ruined, trying for the rugby league world cup now. Mind you it WAS an injustice that the urinal that is hillsboro WAS picked for the now defunct world cup in England
10.Which grounds are you looking forward to visiting this term?
The bescot would be nice of course, I was there when Switzerland B played Brian Deane & the rest of England B in 1991, bit of a subbuteo stadium but fine. The cow bells of the swiss fans still haunt me.

Cheers Fred for your contribution. You med me laugh with some of your answers, especially the view of Wednesday and the chairman! Yes I was at Bescot for that England B game. That attendance stood as a record for many years. It was/is a bit of a Subbuteo stadium but at least the home end was re-built in 2003 and the awful posts there removed. There are long term plans to rebuild the away end so the ends look the same. We have the planning permission but it would depend on sustained Championship level football and a big sponsor to actually PAY for it to be built!! In return they would be rewarded with a massive neon sign facing the M6 traffic which would be the entire width of the stand! Again planning permission granted!

Aye it were a decent night out at bescot back then, shame hirst got both England goals & Deano had one disallowed `cos carlton bloody palmer had drifted offside, My memory is sadly full of misdemeanours actioned against my Blades!!! Carlton palmer??..., how can a player with the touch of a pogo stick play for England, play for anyone really, scandalous judgement.
Other memories of the night apart from the cow bells... a huge car park, some dodgy cops, getting no programme & a member of the BBC (the local Blades mafia) grabbing me thinking i were a Pig supporter, i stupidly wore a blue jacket, ready to give me a wallop, then buying me a drink when he realised i had a Blades shirt on under it. Ahhh, the pros & cons of Sheffield supporting!! :-)

Cheers Fred. We are a very friendly site and have posters from several clubs on there built into the site. We used to be WalsallMAD till about 18 months ago. The two Admin guys plus myself ( a three man mod team) and just wanted to break away and do our own thing. Very time consuming but immense fun as well.
