Certain Blades players did well to avoid the skirmish, showing surprising skill & pace to get into the safety of the dressing room, shame they hadn`t shown such commitment during the season.
Complete contrast to the end of season match at Darlington the following season.

To give you some idea as to why this game meant so much to WFC.... We had only come up from the 4th the previous season and to have gone back so quick would have set us back years. We finally went down to the basement in 1990. Not a nice place to be.

Fred- A Walsall poster claims that at the end of the game the United PA bloke gave out a false full time score elsewhere to try and calm your fans down a bit. Any truth in this mate?
HERE IS THE QUOTE.........
If I recall - didnt they announce a "false " full time result over the tannoy in an attempt to calm it down, so that the Sheffield fans thought they had managed to stay up ?

Yes, I was there too.....
The false full time sore? Yes, it happened but only calmed the fans for a couple of minutes.
