Could go either way this one! I have very fond memories of Bent at his best, had a decent record for us

I've just checked his career stats, 21 goals in 51 games for Ipswich was his last reasonably prolific spell but that was in 2004. He's average a goal every 5 games in his career, I would have preferred Darren Bent to be honest!

despite my last post on the other thread im willing to give bent time to prove me wrong
his scoring record over the last 2 or 3 years has been less than average but then hes only played about 10 games, perhaps he just needs a good run of games to get his confidence going and find his scoring touch, as hes very much a confidence player
i remember warnock saying some years ago that bent had a bad attitude problem when he first took over and they didnt get on at all (see the punch up with paul devlin in his autobiography)
hopefully he's matured a lot since then

I'm quite happy with bent signing. We've signed a couple of defenders and now a striker obiously Adams can see where we need players and is bringing them in.If bent gets a goal early on i dont think confidence will be a problem and maybe him and Evans can get a partnership going.

If he scores goals that get us out of the (on the field) shit then yes I'm happy. We will just have to sit back and support Adams decisions and hope for the best.

I think Bent and Ward could be a good partnership, if Ward stays that is

3 goals in his last 46 games over the past 3 years suggests we have resurrected Chris Guthrie.
I hope he still has a bit of goal scoring left in him, well a lot actually. At least from memory he was able to trap a ball. Will we have a middle to supply the goods?

We know that Bent, with the right service, can score goals. My concern is, it's been so long since he netted, that he'll have forgot how to do it. I have read a few Birmingham City and Wolves forums this week and they have said (a) he's the worst player they've signed and (b) they don't know why they signed him. I'm hoping for a bit better than "the worst player to wear a Blades shirt" and I'm hoping he can bag the odd goal. He's not that old, as has been stated on other United forums, and at 32 I think he still has something to offer. I'd like to think Adams knows what he's doing and that he's made a very shrewd signing. If Bent comes in and scores 6-7 goals, I don't think anyone would complain. I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and to see how he goes.

I think if he gets an early goal he`ll be away, but then i seem to recall ade akinbloodyuseless scoring in his first game but being total rubbish, didn`t fit in & missed several thousand sitters that only a player of his vast inability could fashion.
Bent has a much better game than ade ( but then, pieces of tree bark had more talent than ade), so i think he`ll be an asset in our go-forward.
I want a midfield tho` with creative talent, not with Ertl, monty & quinn.... looks like britton is sodding back to the valley`s so that leave us with Yeates & Williamson, both injury prone to give the forwards service. Not enough.
