With the Blades in the worst position for nearly 20 years, who do you think is to blame. My own personal view is that the blame for our current situation lies with the board of directors and most notably, Kevin McCabe.
I have provided a short list of some of the strategic mistakes we have made over the past 5 years.
1, The failure to capitalise on our promotion and the unwillingness to back Warnock with sufficient funds to strengthen the team
2. The appointment of Robson and the subsequent spending of silly money of big name marguee signings.
3, The appointment of Blackwell and the fire sale that ensued where we sold any of the players that were worth a fee.
4, The timing of the appointment of Speed and the change of style.
5, The emphasis on strengthening the side with loanees even though this strategy hadn't worked in the previous season.
6, The appointment of Adams and the drastic change of style again.
All the above and more have contributed to our downfall. Most clubs would only see these sorts of changes in a 10 year spell, but the Blades have managed to squeeze most of this in in one or two seasons.
We are in a mess and in my view, the board are culpable for the majority of what has gone wrong. The worrying thing is, the board are still calling the shots and more bad decisions could be made before they're done.
The EGM in March is looking like a very interesting event and McCabe is attempting to turn £14M of debt into shares. I suspect the shareholders will for this to go through, but I wonder what would happen if they vote against?

SOC. I think the problems started when we did'nt find a replacement for Derek Dooley, after all he was a chairman with a footballers brain, it's been a quite rapid decline since then. They should replace the current Puppet/Chairman with Dave Bassett, Bob Booker or someone similar who have our (paying supporters) feelings at heart, and not some financial swot. We need somebody who does'nt give a flying frig about buying other clubs or profit margins. Dooley would'nt have stood for this.. I'm sure.

McCabe has shown his true colours......once a greedy propertydeveloper, always a greedy property developer. A business man who has used us as a platform for his other businesses, and now they are in trouble, he buttrapes us and assett strips. He dosen't care about football or the 30000 people he is pissing off, just about his bank balance.

Your right Muttley
I think he showed his true colours when he di-listed the shares of thousands of blades fans for his own ends, then he has the cheek to ask us/them to spunk up some more money to get more dosh into the club. My son and I have been a season ticket holders and share holders for donkeys years, we are serously considering our options for next season as we are both currently out of work due to redundancies.

Agree with most of the above, though not sure about point 1/ SOC, from what i recall McCabe, in one of his very few surprise lucid Blades supporting moments, actually did back Warnock & his ego in January 2007, Gave him £10m to spend.
alas dear Colin came up with the following...
£2m on Luton Shelton. the fastest man ever to miscontrol a football £1.75m on a young lad Matt Kilgallon, one for the future but wasn`t ready for that season £700k on Ahmed Fahti, a nomadic date eating midfielder who was left on the bench writing postcards home to his pet dromedary £750k on Jonathan Stead, a player who gave us something back on the investment but most of the time was incapable of doing the one man up front job Warnock wanted. Free .. Mamadou Seck, we paid nowt for him & we got less than that back.
& no one else were better than what he`d already got apparently, even though we had little or no midfield.
From that moment on, adding Colin`s 9-0-1 away formation for the remainder of the season & a continuance of his ego trip at the expense of the side... well we missed out big time on what should`ve been a comfortable stay in the premiership. With just a touch of commonsense we`d have avoided relegation & robson, blackwell etc. would never have been.
sod it!

I agree with most of the above, Warnock started the rot by buying crap, but was that due to trying to keep the wages down (McCabe again if so)? We are in a worse position now than when we went to the 4th, and I think we will be down (unless we have a miracle) in the lower divisions for a long long time. The board (McCabe) don't seem capable or willing to back the manager, and I doubt next season will be any different.
Wonder when we will get the capacity up to 40000, that will look great with 13000 in it.
Come on Kevin, time to undo the damage you've done.

SOC: Add Chelski to the list - if only they hadn't broken Hulsy's leg he may have kept us up

Well one part of the decline we can't take the blame for. Premier League not doing the right thing when West ham got caught cheating the 2nd time around and not bothering too investigate again when other clubs asked them too.
Time was right for Warnock to move on however the appointment of Robbo was a huge mistake. Mccabe allowed players with big wage bills to come in which would have been fine if we were going up again. Sadly he didn't realise Robbo was clueless on how to manage a team so the gamble was doomed to fail.
Blackwell quick fix and this got us to the play offs. However Mccabe eager to get some money back weakened the squad ensuring failure.
More money reduction meant quality rather than quantity. Fine as long as players stay fit. Combined with Blackwells hatred of good wingers ensured another season of failure.
Mccabe dillied and dallied during summer and then sacked Blackwell in the season and took the cheap option again in Speed. This is looking the biggest mistake yet as speed flopped then then jumped ship before being sacked. Adams I feel was the only sucker that would take the job. Mccabe once more probably didn't want to open his wallet which may have attracted other managers so Adams was it.
United are now debt ridden full of loan players and other teams discards it isn't really surprising we're in the bottom two.
It's quite clear where the blame lies. The chairman who lost the plot.
Unless there's a miracle we're down. Hopefully we'll look for up and coming players in the next season not the has beens and failures.
